YG has a track on the new Madden game and a line has been censored. The song, Big Bank, has a line by Big Sean where he raps “You boys all cap, I’m more Colin Kaepernick.” Both artists are understandably unhappy with being censored without being consulted.
This isn’t the first time Madden has censored Kaepernick from a track. Last year, Madden 18 had another track that mentioned the controversial football star. The track was “Bars of Soap” by MIKE WILL MADE-IT. It has the line: “She be hopin’ that I take a knee like Kaepernick, yes.” But “like Kaepernick” was removed from the Madden version.
Last year, it pretty much went unnoticed, but now that it’s happening AGAIN, more people are taking notice and speaking up. And while Kaepernick was available as a free agent in last years game, it seems like he won’t be in Madden this year at all.
EA did have a response, saying “Members of our team misunderstood the fact that while we don’t have rights to include Colin Kaepernick in the game, this doesn’t affect soundtracks.” Click here for the full statement.
The NFL hasn’t given an official statement, but it seems EA is taking the blame, which is good because this could potentially become a problem for the league. The NFL has exclusive Licenses to EA and the game is officially a piece of merchandise. So it’s possible the league directed EA to censor Kaepernick’s name and that could help prove his case that the league is working against him.
