Kanye West described what it’s like to have a bipolar episode on an interview appearance, claiming doctors don’t get it and they actually made the situation worse for him.
West talked about his mental health struggles with David Letterman on his new show, “My next Guest Needs No Introduction.” He explained the difficulties of his situation and compared his mental health to a sprained ankle.
As the interview went on, Kanye said it’s a revelation when you think of a doctor bearing down on a sprained ankle, causing pain and exacerbating the injury. Now, think of doctors doing the same sort of thing to a cerebellum.
TL;DR Kanye thinks that doctors are actually messing up the minds of patients who struggle with mental illness.
You may remember, back in 2016, Kanye had an episode which people thought was a nervous breakdown, but actually turned out to be a bipolar episode. Kanye was handcuffed to a hospital bed and left alone, which he claimed made things worse.
He is hoping that by opening up about his own problems and bringing light to the situation, it will start a conversation and change the way we treat bipolar disorder and other mental health issues.
This seems like a great time to be bringing up this particular discussion as May is the national Mental Health Awareness month.
